Scriptix supports several caption formats for different platforms and uses.

Supported Formats

Scriptix caption editor exports to:

  • SRT - SubRip format (universal)
  • VTT - WebVTT (HTML5 web standard)
  • SBV - YouTube native format
  • TTML - Timed Text Markup Language
  • STL - Spruce subtitle format
  • HTML - Web page format

SBV Format

About SBV:

  • YouTube's native caption format
  • Simple text format with timestamps
  • No styling or positioning

Best for:

  • Uploading directly to YouTube
  • Simple caption needs

TTML Format

About TTML:

  • XML-based caption format
  • Industry standard for broadcast and streaming
  • Supports metadata and styling

Best for:

  • Professional broadcast
  • Streaming platforms
  • Compliance requirements

STL Format

About STL:

  • Spruce subtitle format
  • Used in professional video production
  • Binary or text format variants

Best for:

  • Professional video production
  • DVD authoring

HTML Format

About HTML:

  • Web page format with captions
  • Includes basic styling
  • Viewable in any web browser

Best for:

  • Sharing captions as a web page
  • Review and approval workflows

Exporting Other Formats

To export in any format:

  1. Click the Export button
  2. Select your desired format from the list
  3. Choose whether to include speaker labels
  4. Click Export
  5. File downloads to your computer

Choosing a Format

For web platforms:

  • Use VTT for HTML5 video
  • Use SRT for broad compatibility

For YouTube:

  • Use SBV or VTT

For professional broadcast:

  • Use TTML or STL

For review:
