Label Speakers

Rename speaker identifiers to actual names after automatic separation.

Why Label Speakers?

Proper labels provide clarity, professionalism in exports, and better readability.

Speaker Dropdown Menu

Click the speaker badge to open the menu with all speakers, search box, rename option, add speaker button, and no speaker/no name options.

Rename a Speaker

Click speaker badge, select "Rename this speaker", type new name, and save. All utterances with that speaker update automatically. Renaming to an existing speaker name merges them (case-insensitive).

Change One Utterance's Speaker

Click the speaker badge and select a different speaker from the list to change only that utterance.

Add New Speaker

Click any speaker badge, select "Add speaker", type the name (max 40 characters), and confirm to add to the list.

Speaker Sorting

Speakers appear in this order:

  1. "Chairperson" (if exists) - always first
  2. Empty/No name - bottom
  3. Numeric speakers (Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc.)
  4. Plain numbers (1, 2, 3)
  5. Named speakers - alphabetical

Search Speakers

Use the search box to filter speakers. Press Escape to clear.

Tips

Rename early:

  • Rename speakers before editing text
  • Makes the transcript easier to read and edit

Use full names:

  • "John Smith" instead of "John"
  • More professional for exports

Merge duplicates:

  • If same person has multiple IDs (e.g., "Speaker 1" and "Speaker 3")
  • Rename one to match the other
  • They merge automatically
